The Athlete Sessions™ is an original MSQUARE Productions docu-series that offers fans a look into the lives of their favorite athletes. The series consists of one athlete per episode and focuses on the individual beyond the athlete. Rather than focusing solely on the athlete’s career, we dive deeper into the details of their lives, their childhood, personal anecdotes, hardships and challenges that they’ve experienced. The show draws on real life experiences that have shaped who they are, and by shifting the perspective of each athlete’s personal journey, we humanize the connection between them and viewer.

In The Athlete Sessions™ every episode is 25 minutes in length, the interview portion is shot in black and white against a black backdrop, combined with colored footage of them in action (story footage). The story footage would consist of home videos and photos of their childhood, captured footage of them showing us their home, introducing us to some of their family, and sharing personal aspects of their lives.
The videos begin by focusing on a personal subject that hits home for the athlete – this could focus on their adolescence, their relationships with parents, sibling, friends. The show would also touch on relatable topics like: “childhood fears”, “overcoming hardships before reaching your career”, “dealing with rejection”, “people throughout your life who made an impression or had a positive impact on you”, and more. The idea is to convey a sense of relatability for viewers. If the viewer can connect and relate to these experiences, they are emotionally invested in the person, sympathizing with the experiences the athlete has gone through.
