• When a young guy experiences heart break, beautiful memories and chilling nightmares begin to merge, transcending him into the five stages of grief.

  • After working closely with the artist, Samuel Barrie (SAM3L) on Sony ‘Immerse Yourself’, director Michael Cristian Greene and the team at MSQUARE Productions decided to collaborate with SAM3L to produce the artist’s debut music video “4L’s”. The song preludes the rest of the album, with a focus on the five stages of grief as a recurring theme. The music video draws upon visual references to memories of the character’s past alongside darker tones of surrealism. Michael leverages visual metaphors to expose the character’s insecurities:

“We can all relate to the state of vulnerability that of which we know as love. Love can transform the ordinary into surreal euphoria, yet it also possesses the ability to strip us bare and leave us empty. To me, it is the defining quality, delicate and all-powerful, that makes us human. In 4L’s it was important for me to translate the character’s emotional journey. There are thematic references to hope, fear, birth, death, rediscovery, reflection and denial using recurring elements of water and light, with contrasting tones of blues and reds. The final sequence of the film is held on a single shot as the artist considers his state of mind, and that which plays out amongst him is left for the audience’s interpretation.”
